Section 02 with image of artist's work using sketchup

Above: Ricky Swallow

Ricky Swallow is an Australian sculptor who creates detailed carved wooden sculptures. His works are mostly nostalgic or represents everyday objects. He is also famous for replicas of popular culture icons. The sculpture "The exact dimensions of staying behind" is one of his detailed works, carved out of limewood, portraying the notion of mortality. This can be seen through his display of a skeleton body, combined to a chair, holding tools in both hands. This shows that the figure has been frozen in it past-time or a particular activity.

Below: Sidney Nolan

Nolan was a well-known painter and printmaker. He never relied on one style or technique, but instead experimented in different types of styles. The mood of his works also constantly ranged from dark and moody, to bright and cheerful. In artwork, “Central Australia 1950”, Nolan used variety of warm colours for the land to emphasise different steepnesses and a contrasting light blue for the clear sky. In achieving he also used a fast drying house paint known as Ripolin on canvas. Hence, this shows Nolan's fast painting style, highlighting his technique of painting from memory without the need of practicing or drafts.
