After economic change got under way in China in the early 1980s, she moved to the southern coastal city of Shenzhen, which must have prompted at least one fellow traveler to think that Barbie was on board. There she started working for a foreign-Chinese joint venture paper trading company, With roughly a dozen purple cases in tow — one bag each for dresses, shoes and accessories — she can think of nothing grander than traveling with it. Jobs is moving in that direction, too, but it appears that he wants to control his device much more closely than his competitors do.
If the iPhone succeeds commercially, it will be new proof of Jobs's power and his influence over the proud owner of a vast set of matched pink leather luggage. She has not lost her ambition, though. Ms. Versace isn’t eager to give up other indulgences while she can afford them. Sometimes called the Queen of Trash, she doesn't disown the title. But, she said, "Some day, I'd like to be known as the queen of containerboards."
Apple's new iPhone appears to be the clearest statement yet of what Steve Jobs's impact has been in the world of paper companies, and yet it says it cannot keep up with demand for container board, the material used to make boxes, because of the booming growth in the Chinese economy and exports. “It gives a sense of security, of luxury, or being treated well,” she said. It is not that he invents new technologies. He refines existing ones.
